Day three of my spring adventure, Tupelo to Natchez MS. Started out at about mile marker 265 and headed south. At about mile 235 the road turned really rough and kind of wash board like, but thank goodness it did not last too long just a few miles. The morning was warm with clear sky’s. I rode through alternating sections of warm sun and cool shade with a beautiful green canopy and the smell of pine.
Just below mile 210 there is a swamp and it held many tall dead trees with what might be hundreds of Wood Pecker holes in the trees. More holes that I have ever seen. I guess if you are a Wood Pecker a tall dead tree is a great place to build a home.
Traffic was light all day and I only made a couple of stops until I got to old Canton and I decided to visit the Mississippi Craft Center, lots of beautiful arts and crafts here. Had lunch at Fat Tuesdays and really enjoyed the Shrimp Po Boy with a side of Red Beans and Rice.
I did make a stop at one of the Old Trace markers and took a photo of what the original Trace was like. Thinking about how travel was years ago compared to today is a bit mind boggling to me. They must have been some tough dudes.
Made it to the end of the trace and took a selfie. Headed East Tomorrow.
